On April 16, 2025, the University of the West Indies Global Campus (UWI Global Campus) in partnership with the OECS Commission, unveiled the OECS Advanced Digital Skills Scholarship Call during an informative webinar. The OECS reports that the initiative falls under the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project (CARDTP), which is funded by the World Bank. The project is designed to enhance access to digital technologies, services, and skills, thereby fostering digital connectivity and promoting technology-driven enterprises and employment opportunities throughout the Eastern Caribbean.
The OECS statement further explained that during the webinar, Dr. Francis O. Severin, who serves as the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of UWI Global Campus, emphasized the vital role these scholarships will play in equipping individuals within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) with the essential digital skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. He highlighted that this initiative could be a game-changer for many, enabling them to adapt to the demands of a technology-centric global economy.
The press release stated that Germain Anthony, the Technical Specialist for Education at the OECS Commission, expressed his enthusiasm on behalf of the Commission during the event. He underscored the importance of seizing this opportunity in light of the current challenges faced in securing educational grant funding, which has become increasingly scarce.
The application process for the scholarships is open to citizens and residents from a variety of territories including Dominica, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Eligible candidates will have the chance to obtain scholarships that facilitate certified professional training and development in high-demand fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Web Development. This initiative aims to prepare the workforce of the OECS for the challenges of modern employment while enhancing their overall digital literacy.
